Sweden April 2025: Volvo places five models in Top 6, Tesla down -80.7%
The Volvo XC60 is by far the best-selling model in Sweden in April.
Solid April result for the Swedish new car market at +10.5% year-on-year to 24,292 units. The year-to-date tally is up 7.3% to 87,736. At 15,384 sales, rechargeable cars hold a whopping 63.3% share vs. 57% a year ago. 8,555 sales (up 25.8%) mean BEVs are at 35.2% of the market vs. 31% in April 2024 while PHEVs amount to 6,829 units (up 19.3%) for a 28.1% share vs. 26% a year ago.
Volvo (+29.2%) vastly outperforms its home market to 21.1% share vs. 18.4% so far this year. Volkswagen (+86.3%) does even better, scoring the biggest gain in the Top 12 but its share, at 15.9%, is only marginally above its YTD level of 15%. Toyota (-6.6%) and Kia (-10.9%) struggle below while the next seven carmakers all post double-digit gains. Skoda (+80.3%) fares best followed by Peugeot (+27.8%), Audi (+23.1%), Mercedes (+23.1%), Cupra (+22.6%), BMW (+20.9%) and Polestar (+13.6%). This is Cupra’s first incursion inside the Swedish Top 10 at #10. Tesla crashes -80.7% to #19 and #11 year-to-date vs. #3 over the Full Year 2024.
Over in the models charts, the Volvo XC60 (+56.4%) is miles ahead of the competition with 8.4% of its home market, cementing its YTD lead at 7.3% share. The VW ID.7 (+1201.3%) surges to a record 2nd place with 4% share and now ranked #3 year-to-date. Volvo places no less than five models in the Top 6 with the XC40 (+36.9%), EX30 (-27.6%), S/V60 (-14.3%) and S/V90 (+260.1%) in tow. The VW Passat (+467.4%), Skoda Kodiaq (+283.5%) and Enyaq (+219.7%) also post surreal gains below. The Tesla Model Y is off -79.7% to #40 and ranks #5 year-to-date vs. #1 over the Full Year 2024.
