Romania March 2025: Dacia Duster keeps Logan at bay, sales up 8.4%

The Dacia Duster holds onto the Romanian top spot.

Romanian new car sales sport a second straight positive month in March at +8.4% year-on-year to 9,922 units. The Q1 volume tilts into positive at +1.4% to 33,692. Homegrown Dacia (-2.8%) can’t capitalise on the market growth and sees its share thaw to 23.8% vs. 29.4% so far this year, and almost ten percentage points below its January result (33.6%). In fact, this is Dacia’s lowest share at home since the 23.7% of last September. In contrast the next four manufacturers all outpace the market with double-digit gains. Volkswagen (+46.5%) is the most dynamic above Hyundai (+25.2%), Toyota (+22.7%) and Skoda (+17%). Ford (+34.5%) also shines in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, Peugeot (+151.8%), MG (+113%) and Kia (+52.5%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Dacia Duster (-17.5%) holds onto the pole position both for the month and over Q1, distancing traditional leader the Dacia Logan (+68.8%) surging year-on-year. The Skoda Octavia (+6.8%) posts its first podium finish in exactly a year (since March 2024), overtaking the Dacia Sandero (-1%) at a miserable 2.9% share vs. 5.3% over Q1. Stunningly, the next seven models all lodge at least double-digit lifts: the VW Tiguan (+162.7%) and Hyundai Tucson (+157.6%) fare best, followed by the Ford Kuga (+93.3%), Kia Sportage (+48.8%), Suzuki S-Cross (+43%), Toyota RAV4 (+41.4%) and Corolla (+31.2%). The Dacia Jogger (-29.6%) implodes to #12 and ranks #10 over Q1 vs. #5 over the Full Year 2024. The new Dacia Bigster sputters with just 5 sales for the month.
