Switzerland January 2025: BMW breaks share record, X3 signs first ever win
The BMW X3 is the best-selling vehicle in Switzerland in January.
14,788 new cars found a buyer in Switzerland in January, a -2.9% skid. 4×4 sales are off -5.7% to 7,579 and 51.3% share vs. 52.8% a year ago. As for sales by propulsion, petrol sinks -23% to 3,822 and 25.8% share vs. 32.6% in January 2024, diesel is off -28.1% to 1,221 and 8.3% share vs. 11.1%, but HEVs gain 18.6% to 5,478 and 37% vs. 30.3% last year. PHEVs drop -14.3% to 1,355 and 9.2% share v. 10.4% and BEVs surge 23.1% to 2,910 and 19.7% share vs. 15.5%.
Over in the brands charts, BMW (+12.6%) takes the lead with a record 11.7% share, eclipsing its previous best of 10.7% established last May. This is the 5th time in the past 13 months that BMW is the most popular carmaker in Switzerland after January, February, May and August 2024. Volkswagen (+3%) is also up at #2, just 11 sales above a struggling Skoda (-10.8%). Mercedes (+1%) edges up year-on-year but drops three spots on December to #5. Hyundai (+66.5%), Renault (+47%) and Dacia (+17%) all impress in the remainder of the Top 10. Tesla is down -26.6% to #17.
Model-wise, the BMW X3 (+44.4%) is up no less than 40 spots on December to brilliantly take the lead with 2.3% share. According to our records this is the first time the X3 takes the lead of the Swiss models ranking after finishing #2 in April 2020, April and May 2022. The Skoda Kodiaq (+53.5%) and VW Tiguan (+40.7%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 5, wit the Mercedes GLC (+4.3%) solid at #4. Excellent performances also by the Skoda Fabia (+201.2%), BMW X1 (+43%) and Dacia Sandero (+16.4%).
