Romania January 2025: Dacia Logan holds back Duster in disappointing market

The Dacia Logan remains the most popular vehicle at home.

Romanian new car sales start the year poorly with a -6.4% year-on-year drop in January to 11,920 units. Local behemoth Dacia (+1.6%) defies the negative market and sees its share climb to 33.6% vs. 29.4% over the Full Year 2024 and its highest level since last May. Toyota (-5.1%) and Skoda (-0.1%) fall slower than the market on the podium while Volkswagen (+9.4%) shines at #4 vs. #6 over the Full Year 2024. BMW (+15.8%) and Ford (+10.3%) also impress below with MG (+1350%) surging to #11. Jeep (+265.6%) and Cupra (+27.1%) stand out further down in the charts.

Over in the models charts, the Dacia Logan (-9.4%) keeps the lead over the Duster (+1%) for just 44 sales. The Sandero (+12.3%) and Spring (+11.4%) complete a Top 4 100% Dacia. The Skoda Octavia (+66.9%) is the best of the rest as it was too over the Full Year 2024. The Hyundai Tucson (-6%) follows the market at #6 just as the next 9 models strikingly defy the negative market with year-on-year lifts. The VW Tiguan (+221.7%), Golf (+192.3%), Toyota Yaris Cross (+70.8%) and Renault Captur (+51.7%) post the most spectacular lifts.
