Switzerland Full Year 2024: Tesla Model Y, Skoda Octavia and VW Tiguan on top
The Tesla Model Y is #1 in Switzerland for the third year in a row
New car sales in Switzerland reverse -5% year-on-year in 2024 to 239,535 units. 4×4 registrations are off -3.2% to 124,568 and 52% share vs. 51% in 2023. Petrol sales are down -17.1% to 69,527 and 29% share vs. 33.3% last year while diesel edges down just -4.1% to 22,530 and 9.4% share vs. 9.3%. HEVs soar 17% to 80,513 and 33.6% share vs. 27.3%, PHEVs sink -10.4% to 20,801 and 8.7% share vs. 9.2% and BEVs fall -12.5% to 46,141 and 19.3% share vs. 20.9%.
Volkswagen (-15.1%) skids down to a round 10% share, remaining the #1 brand but it was challenged this year. BMW (+2.5%) was #1 in January, February, May and August, leading the YTD charts at end of May. For its part Skoda (-0.2%) ranked first for only the second time in history in April. Mercedes (+1.9%) overtakes Audi (-11.5%) to snap the 4th spot. The next five carmakers all lodge positive results, with Volvo (+23.3%) by far the most dynamic, up five ranks on last year to #7. Hyundai (+4.8%), Renault (+3%), Tesla (+2%) and Toyota (+0.9%) are also solid.
Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y (+6.9%) lodges a third consecutive annual win and improves its share to 2.8%. The Model Y was #1 in February, March, June, August and September. The Skoda Octavia (+9.3%) advances one spot on last year to #2, topping the charts in January, April and May, while the VW Tiguan (+17.4%) is up two ranks to #3, ranking #1 in October, November and December. The Mercedes GLC (+19%) and BMW X1 (+18.9%) both gain four ranks to #4 and #5 respectively, with the Audi Q3 in tow (#1 in July). The Volvo EX30 ends its first full year of sales at #12 but peaked at #3 in August.
