Russia Full Year 2024: Chinese brands at estimated 62% share, Lada Granta #1

Sales of new passenger cars in Russia bounce back up 48.4% year-on-year in 2024 to 1,571,272 units. We remain below the 1,666,780 units of 2021. Local outlet Lada (+34.4%) sees its market share thaw from 30.6% to 27.8%. If in 2023 Kia, Hyundai and Toyota were still inside the Top 10, this year they have disappeared to be replaced by mostly Chinese carmakers. Indeed there are no less than 8 Chinese brands inside the Russian Top 10 in 2024, and we estimate the Chinese share of the Russian market to be around 62% for the year, up from 47% last year. Haval (+70.6%) advances to 2nd place with 12.1% share, overtaking Chery (+32%) at 10%. Geely (+59.4%) and Changan (+122.1%) camp on their 2023 ranking at #4 and #5 respectively. Omoda (+18%), although trailing the market growth, progresses to #6 overall, toppling Exeed (-3%). Jetour (+294.1%), Belarusian-Chinese JV Belgee (+2865.5%) and Tank (+118.7%) appear in the Top 10. Notice also revamped Moskvich up to #7 in December.
The Lada Granta (+2.8%) easily stays on top of the models charts with 12.8% share vs. 18.5% last year. It is the 8th time the Granta is the best-seller at home after 2013, 2014, 2015, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023. For its first full year of production after it was interrupted, the Lada Vesta (+199.9%) climbs back up to #2 with 7.8% of the market. The Haval Jolion (+50.9%) is once again the most popular foreigner but is kicked down to #3 by the Vesta. The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max (+57.9%) and Tiggo 4 Pro (+60%) climb up the ranking to round out the Top 5. The Geely Monjaro (+134.5%) is up to #7 and the Haval M6 (+303.3%) breaks into the Top 10 at #10.
112,020 new Light Commercial vehicles found a buyer in Russia in 2024, a 24.4% year-on-year improvement. GAZ (+14.7%) continues to dominate the brands charts head and shoulders with 53.8% share, distancing UAZ (+9.6%). Lada (+155.2%) and Sollers (+32.1%) ensure the Top 4 is 100% Russian, with Dongfeng (+204.9%) appearing at #5. The GAZ Gazelle Next (+11.1%) tops the models ranking with 32.2% share vs. 36.1% last year, distancing the Sollers Atlant (+27.3%) and UAZ 3909 (+17.9%).
