151,106 new cars hit Romanian roads in 2024, a 6% year-on-year uptick. This is the highest annual volume since pre-pandemic 2019. Local behemoth Dacia (-1.8%) disappoints with a year-on-year drop and sees its share fall from 31.8% last year to 29.4%. Toyota (+21.7%) manages the biggest gain in the Top 10 and reclaims the #2 spot it held in 2022. Skoda (+2.3%) is also up one spot on last year to #3, distancing Hyundai (+16.2%) up two spots to #4. All three above manufacturers benefit from the weakness of Renault (-2.9%) down three ranks to #5. Mercedes (+15.8%) also beats the market at #8 while BMW (+6.1%) matches it at #9. Ssangyong (+44.3%) and Kia (+40.3%) shine below. MG spends its first full year of sales at #17 with 1.4% share.

In the models aisle, the Dacia Logan (+6.3%) celebrates 20 consecutive years at #1 with an unchanged share at 9.9%. However if in 2023 it topped the charts every single month, this year it was #1 nine times. In 2nd place for the 12th straight year, the Dacia Duster soars 31.4% partly thanks to the new generation and breaks its annual share record at 9.2%. It was #1 in February (10.9% share), March (12.7%) and May (12.6%). The Dacia Sandero (-15%) crumbles but stays at #3 with 5.5% share. Also having a fantastic year are the Skoda Octavia (+22.7%), Toyota Corolla (+39.3%), Hyundai Tucson (+24.9%), Toyota RAV4 (+48.9%) and Kia Sportage (+51%). In contrast the Dacia Jogger (-1%) recedes and the Dacia Spring (-51.9%) has a horrendous year but was back to #4 and 6% share in December which augurs well for 2025.
