209,715 new cars found a buyer in Portugal in 2024, a solid 5.1% year-on-year uptick. Peugeot (+4.4%) is the best-selling carmaker in the country for the 4th year in a row with 10.3% share. It distances Mercedes (+12.7%) up to a record 2nd place, with Dacia (+9.5%) also up one spot on last year to #3. Both manufacturers benefit from a weak showing by Renault (-6.1%) down two ranks to #4 whereas it dominated the Portuguese brands charts for 16 years up to 2021. Toyota (+12.8%) and Citroen (+6.3%) both beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10 while Volkswagen (+4.6%) and Tesla (+4.6%) are close to it. Volvo (+36.7%) and Nissan (+25.2%) also shine just as BYD (+593.8%) breaks into the Top 20 at #20.

Over in the models aisle, the Dacia Sandero (+20.8%) dislodges the Peugeot 2008 (+11.1%), ending three consecutive years of domination by the latter. This way, the Sandero dominates the entire Iberian Peninsula as it is also #1 in Spain. The Tesla Model 3 (+65.5%) surges four spots on last year to land on the third step of the podium and ranked #1 overall in May, September and December. The Renault Clio (+11.4%) ensures all Top 4 models outpace the market. The Peugeot 208 (-3.4%) and Renault Captur (-8.3%) disappoint with year-on-year losses, but the Nissan Juke (+138%) is up 22 spots to #10, the Citroen C3 (+35.3%) up five to #8, the Peugeot 308 (+31.3%) up four to #7 and the Dacia Duster (+24.8%) up three to #9.
