Portugal Full Year 2022: Peugeot 2008 and Dacia Sandero top market up 6.6%

The Portuguese new car market rises 6.6% year-on-year in 2022 to 156,304 registrations. After ending at least 16 years of Renault domination last year, Peugeot (-4.4%) confirms it is the new favourite in Portugal by repeating at #1 with 10.8% share. Renault (-16.8%) freefalls to 8.2% share in 2nd place vs. 10.5% in 2021. Mercedes (+5.9%) roughly follows the market in third position with 7.7% share. Dacia (+74.4%) manages the biggest year-on-year gain in the Top 10 (and Top 20) storming up seven spots to #4. As a result BMW (-13.9%) drops to #5 ahead of Toyota (+14.3%), Citroen (+4.3%) and Volkswagen (+13%). Below Hyundai (-4.6%), Fiat (+33.7%) advances four ranks on last year to #10. Further down, Tesla (+73.5%), Ford (+21.8%), Kia (+20.1%), Opel (+18.2%) and Skoda (+17.1%) make themselves noticed.

The Peugeot 2008 (-6.3%) put an end to 8 years of Renault Clio reign in 2021 and manages to repeat its performance this year despite a year-on-year drop. The Dacia Sandero (+44.4%) surges five spots to #2 overall, edging past the Peugeot 208 (+3.6%) with the Renault Captur (-5.9%) in tow. Once the indomitable force of Portuguese charts, the Renault Clio (-25.5%) sinks to 5th place this year. The rest of the Top 10 bar the Mercedes A-Class (-23.8%) all manage double-digit gains. The Dacia Duster (+77.3%) sports the biggest uptick in the Top 10 and surges 14 ranks to #9, with the Opel Corsa (+30%), Fiat 500 (+24.2%) and Citroen C3 (+11.9%) also very dynamic. The VW Taigo is the best-selling 2022 launch at #45.
