Brazil Full Year 2024: Fiat Strada and VW Polo fight for #1

The Brazilian new car market gains 300,000 units or 13.8% year-on-year in 2024 to 2,479,38 sales. This is the highest annual volume since pre-pandemic 2019 (2,658,927). Fiat (+9.6%) remains the uncontested leader with over 520,000 sales and 21% share compared to 144,000 and 9.2% at home in Italy. Volkswagen (+16.5%) surges in 2nd place ahead of a struggling Chevrolet (-4.1%) going from 15.1% to 12.7% share. Hyundai (+10.5%) overtakes Toyota (+5.9%) and Renault (+10.1%) passes Jeep (-4.5%). Honda (+26.7%) and Nissan (+20.5%) shine while BYD (+326.2%) spectacularly breaks into the Top 10 at #10. GWM (+154.5%), Caoa Chery (+93.5%), Ram (+73.9%) and Ford (+67.4%) are also in outstanding shape.

In the models ranking, the battle for the top spot was fierce between the Fiat Strada (+20%) and VW Polo (+26%) both beating the market. The Strada was #1 seven times while the Polo led four times, with 4,510 sales or 0.1% separating the two nameplates at year-end. It’s the 4th time in a row that the Strada is the best-selling vehicle in Brazil. The Top 4 is unchanged on 2023 with the Chevrolet Onix (-4.5%) and Hyundai HB20 (+9.2%) in tow and both underperforming. The HB20 ranked #1 in June. The Fiat Argo (+36.6%) shoots up to #5 ahead of the VW T-Cross (+15.9%). The Nissan Kicks (+19%) is the only additional Top 10 member to outpace the market. The Renault Kardian is the best-selling new launch at #35 followed by the BYD Dolphin Mini aka Seagull at #37, with the former peaking at #21 in November and the latter hitting #24 in April.
