Belgium Full Year 2024: BMW and X1 best-sellers again

The Belgian new car market struggles in 2024 at -6% year-on-year to 448,277 units. Fleet sales account for 61.6% of total sales vs. 68.9% in 2023, giving private sales a 38.4% share vs. 31.1% last year. Electrified vehicles (BEV+PHEV+HEV) add up to 52.7% share vs. 48.4% a year ago, with BEVs at 28.5% share and petrol at 41.7%.
For the 4th year in a row, BMW (-0.3%) is the most popular carmaker in the country with 11.2% share, making Belgium once again the only market in the world where the German manufacturer is #1. It increases its advantage over #2 Volkswagen (-6.5%) from 5,307 to 8,094 units. Although staying at their 2023 ranking, Audi (-7.7%) and Mercedes (-10.4%) both fall faster than the market. Dacia (+16.5%) excels at #5 and peaked at a record #2 with 9% share in December. Volvo (+13.6%) and Toyota (+0.3%) are also in positive but Tesla (+32.3%) posts the largest gain in the Top 10 at #10.
The BMW X1 is the best-selling model in Belgium for the second year running with 15,328 sales, distancing the Dacia Sandero (11,730) and Tesla Model Y (10,602).
