Portugal September 2024: Tesla Model 3 best-seller for the third time
The Tesla Model 3 is the most popular vehicle in Portugal in September.
15,055 new cars found a buyer in Portugal in September, a 7% year-on-year improvement. This way, the year-to-date volume is now up 2.9% to 157,844. Peugeot (+7.8%) keeps the lead of the brands charts with 9.9% share but the next members of an unchanged Top 4 vs. August are all in a rut: Mercedes is off -12.2%, Dacia down -12.1% and BMW down -11.5%. In contrast Tesla surges 189.5% and gains 14 spots on last month to #5. Toyota (+84%), Volkswagen (+39.6%), Hyundai (+11.5%) and Renault (+9.1%) also beat the market below. BYD (+854.1%) is down three ranks on August to a still strong 16th place and breaks its volume record at 353, outselling such established brands as Opel, Audi and Skoda. MG (+304.8%) also impresses at #19 with 1.7% share vs. 1.1% year-to-date. Xpeng makes its first appearance in the Portuguese ranking at #36.
Model-wise, the Tesla Model 3 (+38050%!) secures its third ever win after November 2023 and May 2024 with a dominant 5.1% share. The Peugeot 208 (+11.3%) follows at 3.9% with the Dacia Duster (+91.8%) rounding out the podium. Leader last month and year-to-date, the Dacia Sandero drops -10.6% to #4 in September while the 2023 leader, the Peugeot 2008 (+6.7%) is down to #5. Notice also the Toyota Yaris Cross surging 722.2% to #7 with the Ford Puma (+88.7%), Renault Captur (+88.3%) and Nissan Juke (+26.1%) also sporting sensational gains in the remainder of the Top 10.
