Mexico August 2024: Mazda (+52.8%), Toyota (+41.3%) highlight biggest market in 8 years
Mazda2 sales are up 33.7% year-on-year in August.
Mexican new car sales soar 11.9% year-on-year in August to 127,684 units, the highest tally for the month since August 2016 (134,054) and also the 2nd highest August result ever. The year-to-date volume is now up 12.1% to 962,869, the largest 8 month volume since 2017 (990,567). OEM leader Nissan (+1.7%) fails to capitalise on the solid market and holds a 16.9% share, in line with the 17.1% it commands year-to-date. Chevrolet (+10.2%) is more dynamic but still trails the market slightly while Volkswagen (+17.4%) improves at 9% share. Toyota (+41.3%), Mazda (+52.8%), Suzuki (+14.9%) and Ford (+13.7%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Chinese fare Jetour (+29.5%) now reports Mexican sales (with year-ago results also available) and lands at #32 with 0.2% share.
Over in the models charts, no surprises on top with the 4 best-sellers identical to July. The Nissan Versa (+17.1%) leads the way with a solid 6.4% share, distancing the Nissan Pickup (-13.3%) and Chevrolet Aveo (-19.4%) while the new Kia K3 holds 3.4% of the market at #4. The Chevrolet Onix (+70%) surges six spots on last month to #5, dislodging the VW Virtus (+52.9%) from the Top 5. The Mazda2 (+33.7%) and Nissan Sentra (+21.1%) also shine below. The MG 5 (-26.5%), struggling, closes out the Top 10 whereas it ranked #5 over the Full Year 2023. The Toyota Avanza (+210.4%) at #13 and Mazda CX-30 (+197%) at #15 both score spectacular gains. The Chevrolet S10 (#23), MG 3 (#28) and Kia Sonet (#37) top recent launches.
