Argentina March 2024: Devastated market, Toyota Yaris (+62.3%) up spectacularly to #3
The Toyota Yaris posts an excellent month at the expense of the Toyota Etios.
Sales of new light vehicles in Argentina implode -36.4% year-on-year in March to 24,017 units, leading to a year-to-date tally off -30% to 80,084. Toyota (-30.1%) improves its share to 25.3% vs. 19.1% over Q1 with over 6,000 sales for the month. Volkswagen (-21.1%) resists somewhat and repeats at #2 above Fiat (-41.5%). VW is now also #2 year-to-date. The next four manufacturers all fall even faster than the market, with Chevrolet (-60.6%) hit the hardest followed by Peugeot (-46.9%), Renault (-46.9%) and Ford (-41%). Jeep (+45.4%) swims upstream with a fantastic gain as do Ram (+1014.3%!), Hyundai (+53.3%) and BMW (+51.2%) below.
The Fiat Cronos (-51.5%) continues to dominate the models charts despite slicing its year-ago volume in two to 8.8% share vs. 12% over Q1. The Peugeot 208 (-45.9%) stays in 2nd place with 8.1% of the market, while the Toyota Yaris (+62.3%) is up spectacularly at #3. The Toyota Hilux (-44.7%) and Ford Ranger (-34.8%) follow. The Toyota Corolla (+62.7%), VW Polo (+37%) and Toyota Corolla Cross (+11.8%) also defy the imploding market in the remainder of the Top 10.
