Portugal January 2024: Peugeot (+56.5%) and 2008 (+115.7%) in control of market up 7.5%

The Peugeot 2008 confirms it is the best-seller in Portugal.

Portuguese new car sales are up a solid 7.5% year-on-year in January to 15,737 units. This comes on the back of January 2023 volumes already up 48.4%. Strikingly, the Top 4 manufacturers all outpace the market: Peugeot (+56.5%) is back to #1 with 13.3% share, distancing Dacia (+17.6%) up to #2 for the third time in the past 5 months, Mercedes (+14.2%) and Toyota (+24.7%) up three spots on its FY2023 level at #4. Citroen (+16.5%) also shines while Kia (+95.4%), Nissan (+33.9%) are each up 6 ranks on last month to #9 and #8 respectively. Renault (-27%), Opel (-14.1%) and BMW (-4.4%) struggle. Below, Mitsubishi (+139.5%), Tesla (+138.7%), DS (+101.5%) and MG (+58.1%) stand out. Newcomer BYD ranks at #24, down four spots on last month. Chinese Radar, a brand by Geely, lands in the charts with one sale.

Over in the models lane, the Peugeot 2008 (+115.7%) and Dacia Sandero (+129.3%) post fantastic year-on-year gains to remain in the control of the charts as they did over the Full Year 2023. The Renault Clio (+6.8%) remains in third place above the Peugeot 208 (+163%) up 8 spots on December to #4. The Opel Corsa (-4.5%) struggles year-on-year but bounces back up 22 ranks on last month to #5. The Nissan Juke (+374.3%) is up 14 spots to #7 with the Toyota Yaris Cross (+14.3% also beating the market at #10 and the Dacia Duster (+7.8%) and Peugeot 308 (+7.8%) matching it. The Tesla Model 3 is up a whopping 1385% to #11.
