Hungary Full Year 2023: Toyota #1, Suzuki S-Cross in the lead again

New passenger car sales in Hungary edge down -3.4% year-on-year in 2023 to 107,720, marking the 4th consecutive year-on-year loss. When adding Light Commercial Vehicles the total advances to 128,469 (-0.6%). We have an important change in the PC brands ranking: Toyota (+7.2%) goes against the market with a significant lift and topples traditional leader and local producer Suzuki (-12.2%) in trouble. This is estimated to be the first annual win for Toyota. Skoda (+57.8%) surges three spots to land on the third step of the podium at 10.1% share vs. 6.2% last year. Volkswagen (-14.6%) is pushed down to #4 ahead of Kia (-19%) staying at #5 despite a dismal score. Ford (-30.1%) does even worse and falls to #6. BMW (+9.6%) is robust at #7 followed by three underperforming brands: Mercedes (-19.6%), Dacia (-31.6%) and Opel (-10.2%). Audi (+26.4%), Nissan (+50.2%), Mazda (+34.5%), MG (+419.7%), Tesla (+120.4%) and Lexus (+46.7%) impress.
In the PC+LCV models charts, the Suzuki S-Cross (-17.4%) keeps the lead despite a harsh loss and ranking #2 at end-November. The Skoda Octavia (+73.2%) soars to 2nd place vs. #6 last year and led the rankings at end-November. The Suzuki Vitara (-9.6%) drops to #3 ahead of the Toyota Corolla (-5.1%) and Kia Ceed (-18.7%) both struggling. Doing even worse is the Dacia Duster (-20.5%) at #6. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+19.8%) leaps up five spots to #7, with the Toyota C-HR (+33.4%) and Ford Tourneo Custom (+2.1%) also strong. Now that the have LCV models data, the Toyota Hilux (#8) leads the way above the Ford Ranger (#11), Renault Master (#13) and Ford Transit (#15).
