Consult over 40 years of Bulgarian Historical Info here.

The Bulgarian new light vehicle market surges 27.6% year-on-year in 2023 to 42,850 units. Keep in mind Bulgaria is the king of re-exports so a significant part of the cars registered in the country actually never hit local roads, as they are directly re-exported to other EU countries. As such, the rankings do not reflect the reality of the market on the streets. Toyota (+26.5%) remains the most popular brand in the country with 11.5%. This time it is followed by Dacia (+32.1%) up one spot to #2 while Skoda (+72%) is up two to #3. As a result Renault (+5.5%), very shy this year, falls to #4 above Volkswagen (+48.5%). Hyundai (+36.1%) and Ford (+29.6%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10.

The Dacia Sandero (+43.5%) takes the lead of the models ranking vs. #3 last year, toppling the Toyota Corolla (+6.4%) down to #2. The Toyota C-HR (+70.9%) climbs three spots to land on the third step of the podium, distancing the Skoda Octavia (+121.8%) up six and the Dacia Duster (+7.1%) down three. The Dacia Jogger (+112.6%) advances 13 ranks to #6 (and ranked #1 in December) ahead of the Renault Clio (+1.8%) and Citroen C3 (+9.5%) both underperforming. The Renault Express (+40.7%) a descendant of the once best-seller Dacia Dokker is up four spots to #10 but can’t reproduce the latter’s success. Notice also the Skoda Kamiq (+189.9%) up 27 ranks to #12.

Previous year: Bulgaria 2022: Toyota and Corolla take control in strong market (+8%)
