Sweden October 2023: Volvo XC40 and Kia Niro top solid market
The Kia Niro is up to 2nd place in Sweden in October.
The Swedish new car market gains a solid 11.8% year-on-year in October to 25,016 units. The year-to-date tally is now up 3.5% to 234,985. EV sales climb 18.5% to 9,408 and 37.6% share vs. 35.5% a year ago and PHEV deliveries are up 7.3% to 5,749 and 23% share vs. 23.9% last year. All in all, electrified cars account for 60.6% of the market vs 59.4% in October 2022.
After a four months drought, Volvo (-9.6%) is back in the brands top spot despite going against its home market with a substantial year-on-year fall. It holds a 14.8% share vs. 13.3% so far this year. Volkswagen (-0.6%) drops to #2 while Kia (+22.1%) shines at #3 but still struggles year-to-date (-21%). Toyota (+6.9%) can’t catch up with the market growth whereas the next five carmakers all beat the market. Tesla (+1576.7%) lodges a spectacular lift at #9 vs. #3 last month, with Skoda (+42.1%), Audi (+22.9%), Mercedes (+20.6%) and BMW (+13.8%) also in great shape. Below, BYD (+40400%) and Peugeot (+97%) shine.
Model-wise, the Volvo XC60 (+25.4%) shoots up to first place with a dominant 6.5% share but this is far from enough to regain the YTD top spot off the Tesla Model Y which gains 185.6% year-to-date and 1534.2% for the month. The Kia Niro (+57.2%) is up four spots on September to #2, its highest ranking since winning the models race back in September 2022. The VW ID.4 (+60.8%) is also very strong whereas the Volvo XC60, #1 a year ago, is stuck at #4. The Skoda Enyaq (+82.8%) repeats at #5 and now ranks #6 year-to-date vs. #14 over the Full Year 2022. The Audi Q4 e-Tron (+112.1%) climbs 7 ranks on last month to #7, its highest ever ranking in Sweden. The Kia Sportage (+46.7%) and Toyota Corolla (+63%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10 while the BYD Atto 3 is down three spots to #11 and the MG 4 down 17 to #26.
