Taiwan September 2023: Nissan (+48.4%), Lexus (+31.1%), Tesla (+87.7%) shine
The Nissan X-Trail is up to #4 in Taiwan in August.
New light vehicle sales in Taiwan grow 3.5% year-on-year in September at 37,083 units, leading to a year-to-date volume up 12.2% to 349,720. Interestingly, sales of locally-produced vehicles have returned to more tham 50% of the market. Toyota (-16.9%) struggles this month but remains the faraway leader in the brands charts with 24% share, that’s almost four times the #2, Honda (+22.5%) in great shape. Nissan (+48.4%) climbs back up from outside the August Top 10 directly to #3 with 6.1% share vs. 4.5% year-to-date. Hyundai (+13.9%) also shines at #4 as do Lexus (+31.1%) at #6 and Tesla (+87.7%) at #9. CMC (-34.4%), Mercedes (-16.7%) and Ford (-15.7%) are in a rut while Volkswagen (+3%) matches the market at #11.
Model-wise, no surprise on top with the Toyota Corolla Cross (-13%) still dominating despite a hefty year-on-year loss. The Toyota Town Ace (+61.8%) advances to #2 and the Honda CR-V (+75.3%) is up three spots on August to #3, a ranking it also holds year-to-date. Boosted by a new generation, the Nissan X-Trail surges directly to #4 overall, distancing the CMC Veryca (-13.2%) and Toyota RAV4 (-27.8%) both in difficulty. The MG HS (+2411.4%) celebrates one year in market at # and the Lexus NX (+47.7%) soars to #9, yet this is way lower than its year-to-date level (#6).
