Portugal August 2023: Peugeot 208 and Dacia Sandero on top, Tesla up 11-fold YoY
The Peugeot 208 is the best-selling vehicle in Portugal in August.
13,050 new cars found a Portuguese home in August, a 14.1% year-on-year uptick. As a result, the year-to-date tally is now up 36.8% to 132,279. Peugeot (+24.2%) confirms it is the favourite carmaker around with 10.7% of the market, albeit less than the 11.4% it holds year-to-date. The surprise (or is it?) of the month is the 2nd place of Tesla (+1022.1%) up 11-fold year-on-year to 1,167 sales, reaching 8.9% share. The American brand smashes all its previous records which were #7 with 5.5% share last February and 890 sales last March. Mercedes (+17%), BMW (+30%), Dacia (+69.2%) and Citroen (+49.7%) all outpace the market below whereas Renault (-30.5%) is in great difficulty in contrast with its performance in most European markets. Volvo (+148.5%) also impresses further down.
As far as models are concerned, the Peugeot 208 (+8.7%) advances to first place with 5.1% share, cementing the #2 spot it holds year-to-date. The Dacia Sandero (+112.9%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year to land in 2nd position with 4.9% of the market vs. 3% year-to-date where it ascends to #3. Tesla shows off below, placing the Model 3 (+62500%!) at #3 and the Model Y (+422.3%) at #4. The Citroen C3 (+198.8%) is also in outstanding shape and rounds out the Top 5. Still comfortable leader YTD, the Peugeot 2008 (+85.8%) falls to 6th place despite a splendid year-on-year evolution. The BMW 2 Series (+259.6%), Volvo XC40 (+227.3%) and BMW i4 (+180%) all shine below.
