Greece July 2023: Fiat Panda surprise leader

The Fiat Panda is the best-selling vehicle in Greece in July.

New car sales in Greece advance 13.8% year-on-year in July to 12,380 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 26% to 82,742. Toyota (+28.3%) more than doubles the market growth to lead the brands charts with 14.7% share vs. 12.7% so far this year. In contrast Peugeot (-2.7%) is in difficulty year-on-year but posts a strong 10.6% share compared to 8.1% YTD. Fiat (+58.7%), Suzuki (+75.9%), Kia (+40.9%) and Citroen (+78.6%) all shoot up in the remainder of the Top 10. Notably Fiat achieves 10.2% share for the month vs. just 3.7% so far this year where it ranks #11. Further down, Jeep (+268.4%), Volvo (+120.4%) and Mini (+69.9%) make themselves noticed while MG lands at #29.

Over in the models lane, the Fiat Panda (+136.3%) is the surprise best-seller this month, up from #46 in June. Rental sales should be behind this surge. The previous times the Panda was #1 in Greece were in March 2019 and June 2019. The Toyota Yaris (+44%) is up to #2 both for the month and year-to-date, but still remains far below the Opel Corsa (-29.3%) YTD. The Peugeot 2008 (+133.1%) is also in outstanding shape at #3, distancing last month’s leader the Toyota Yaris Cross (+64.3%). The Hyundai i20 (+118.4%) and most strikingly the Fiat 500 (+694.6%), also potentially due to rentals, both impress further down.
