Greece Full Year 2014: Toyota Yaris resists Opel Corsa assault

After an excruciating 6 consecutive years of decline taking it from 279,554 registrations in 2007 to just 58,694 in 2013, the Greek new car market finally is on the rebound in 2014: up 21% to 71,218 units. The brands podium is unchanged on last year, with Toyota improving its market share slightly to 11.3% followed by Volkswagen (9.7%) and Opel (9.1%). Nissan is up an impressive 72% year-on-year to leapfrog Fiat and Hyundai and land in 4th place, Ford is up 30% to #7, Suzuki and Mercedes both up 51% to #9 and #11 respectively, BMW up 43% to #12, Renault up a gigantic 105% to #13, Audi up 31% to #14, Peugeot up 41% to #16 and Mini up 49% to #19.

The Toyota Yaris remains the best-selling vehicle in Greece for the 2nd year running and the third time in the past 5 years with sales up 8% to 4,164 units. It resists an aggressive push by the Opel Corsa (leader in 2011 and 2012) up 23% to 4,028 sales and #1 year-to-date up until October. The VW Polo and Hyundai i10, both up 27% year-on-year, complete a Top 4 identical to 2013. The Ford Fiesta is up an impressive 44% to #5, the Nissan Qashqai doubles its sales year-on-year thanks to the new model to gain 7 spots to #6 and the Renault Clio does to same to edge into the Top 10.

Notice also the Volvo V40 up 57% to #14, the Skoda Octavia up 79% to #16, the Nissan Note taking off 69 ranks to #22, the Toyota Corolla up 10-fold to #28 and the Audi Q3 up 19 spots to #34. The Mercedes CLA breaks into the annual Top 50 at #48 and the Mercedes GLA is the best-selling all-new nameplate at #62, followed by the Seat Toledo at #66 (much higher than at home in Spain), the Peugeot 2008 at #87, the Peugeot 108 at #96 and the Citroen C4 Cactus at #100. After the HX Auto Noble in 2013, the ChangAn Benni is the resident Chinese model in the annual Greek rankings with one lonely unit sold in 2014.
