Brazil July 2023: VW Polo repeats at #1, Nivus in Top 10, market up 27.6%
The VW Polo is the best-selling vehicle in Brazil for the 2nd month running.
The Brazilian new light vehicle market shoots up 27.6% year-on-year in July to 215,711, leading to a year-to-date tally up 12.7% to 1,150,213. Fiat (+24.5%) retains the brands top spot with 20.6% share vs. 12% at home in Italy. However Volkswagen (+51.8%) is getting closer at 19.3% of the market vs. 15.6% so far this year. The German brand overtakes Chevrolet (+6.4%) in the year-to-date charts to rank #2 overall. Hyundai (+57.6%) also vastly outpaces the market in 4th place, distancing Toyota (+3%) and Renault (+24.1%). Jeep (+15.1%) is soft while Honda (+69.4%) impresses. Outside the Top 10, Citroen (+231.1%), Volvo (+143%), Land Rover (+76.6%) and Ford (+52.5%) make waves. BYD is up 5 spots on last month to #17.
In the brands ranking, the VW Polo (+9205.6%) repeats at #1 for the nameplate’s second ever monthly win and does so with authority at 7.6% share. The Hyundai HB20 (+48.7%) is also very strong and climbs five ranks on June to #2. The Fiat Strada (-4.7%) is in difficulty, relegated to #3 but holding onto the YTD top spot for now. The Chevrolet Onix (+16.1%) is lukewarm at #4 while the Fiat Mobi (+145.7%) and VW T-Cross (+142%) surge ahead and the VW Nivus (+117%), up 10 spots on last month to break into the Top 10 for the first time at #9.
