Vietnam June 2023: Toyota Vios returns to #1 in stabilised market (+0.4%)
A new generation Toyota Vios is about to hit the Vietnamese market.
Data by local manufacturers association VAMA shows a Vietnamese new car market frankly slowing its fall in June at -5.4% year-on-year to 23,800 units. The H1 2023 volume is down -32% to 137,327. These figures climb to 32,063 (+0.4%) for the month and 176,976 (-30%) when adding Hyundai and VinFast EV who report separately from VAMA.
Hyundai (+19.4%) reclaims the brands top spot with 15.9% share, a position it also holds year-to-date. Toyota (-1.7%) ranks #2 for just 18 units while Thaco-Kia (-16.8%) drops two spots on May to #3. VinFast EVs climb 26.7% year-on-year to stay in 4th position but Ford (+53.4%) and Mazda (+42.4%) are even more impressive below.
Model-wise, ahead of the launch of the new generation (pictured) the Toyota Vios (+189.6%) surges up year-on-year to return to #1, a ranking it last held in May 2022. As a result it shoots up from #12 after five months to #5 halfway through the year. The Ford Ranger (+12.4%) is up five ranks on last month to #2 with the Hyundai Accent (+41.7%) also up five spots to round out the podium. The Mitsubishi Xpander (+119.7%) and Mazda CX-5 (+183.8%) stun below. #1 last month, the VinFast VF 8 falls to #6 and is followed by the VF e34.
