Brazil June 2023: VW Polo signs first ever win in market back into positive territory

The VW Polo is the best-selling vehicle in Brazil in June.

New light vehicle sales in Brazil climb 8.6% year-on-year in June to 179,691, leading to a year-to-date volume up 9.8% to 934,519. The top 3 manufacturers lift much faster than the market, indicating a concentration of market towards tried and tested brands: they account for 55.3% of the entire Brazilian market vs. 52.8% year-to-date. Fiat (+21.6%) easily leads the way with 23.6% share vs. 9.3% at home in Italy, distancing Volkswagen (+20%) at 16.6% and Chevrolet (+42%) at 15.1%. In contrast, 5 of the next 7 carmakers lose ground year-on-year, with Peugeot (-35.9%) the hardest hit followed by Hyundai (-25.2%), Jeep (-15.9%) and Renault (-5.2%). Newcomer GWM stays at #16 with Volvo (+106.1%), Audi (+95.1%), Land Rover (+88.3%), Ram (+75.9%) and Porsche (+67.8%) all excelling.

Model-wise, the VW Polo (+3911.7%), the replacement for the defunct Gol, signs its first ever Brazilian win with 5.5% share. It distances the year-to-date leader, the Fiat Strada (-8.5%), weak this month. The Chevrolet Onix (+109.2%) stays in third position above the VW T-Cross (+15.1%) and Fiat Mobi (+45.9%). The Fiat Argo (+117.9%) is also very dynamic in 6th place whereas the Hyundai HB20 (-19.1%) sinks. The Chevrolet Onix Plus (+65.7%) and Renault Kwid (+17.6%) also post higher gains than the market in the remainder of the Top 10. The Fiat Fastback is the best-selling recent launch at #23 ahead of the Citroen C3 (#26) and GWM Haval H6 (#43).
