Mexico May 2023: Mazda (+178.1%), Peugeot (+222.9%) impress in robust market (+17.1%)
Peugeot sales triple year-on-year in Mexico.
The Mexican new light vehicle market is up a very robust 17.1% year-on-year in May to 106,798 sales leading to a year-to-date tally up 21.4% to 519,534. Brand leader Nissan (+42.2%) vastly outpaces the market to 18.8% share vs. 18.1% year-to-date where it is up 28%. Chevrolet (+10.7%) stays in 2nd place but underperforms, it distances Volkswagen (-5.2%) and Toyota (-18.3%) also in difficulty. Kia (+5.3%) only edges up and drops one spot on April to #5. At #6, Mazda (+178.1%) posts a fantastic year-on-year lift but only catches up to its YTD share at 5.6%. MG (+15%) continues to gear up at #7 while Renault (+2.3%), Hyundai (+17.3%) and Ford (+15.5%) round out the Top 10. Below, notice Chirey up one rank on last month to #12, Seat (+94.4%), Audi (+28.5%), Peugeot (+222.9%), Fiat (+124.4%), Cupra (+60.4%), Land Rover (+406.7%) and Porsche (+69.2%) all making waves.
Model-wise, Nissan monopolises the Top 2 spots with the Versa (+9.4%) at #1 and the NP300 pickup (+31.7%) at #2, as it is also the case year-to-date. The Kia Rio is down one spot on April to #3 and is followed by the MG 5 (+51%) reaching an all-time best 4th place also hit in August 2022. The Nissan March (+169.4%) rallies back up 9 ranks to #5 ahead of a receding Chevrolet Aveo (-10%). The Mazda3 (+293.4%), VW Taos (+247.5%) and Nissan Sentra (+67.3%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. The Ford Territory (#28) is the most popular recent launch (<12 months) above the Hyundai HB20 (#31), VW Taigun (#37), Chirey Tiggo 7 (#41), Chirey Omoda C5 (#42) and Chirey Tiggo 4 (#46).
