Indonesia May 2023: Daihatsu Sigra best-seller, sales rally up 66%

After sinking -28.9% in April, wholesales in Indonesia rally back up 66% year-on-year in May to 82,097 units, leading to a year-to-date volume tilting back into positive at +6.9% to 423,404. The retail market is up 34.1% to 82,559 for May and up 10.7% year-to-date to 422,514. Toyota wholesales surge 111.9% to 34.3% share vs. 32% year-to-date just as Daihatsu soar 129.3% to 19.5% of the market. Honda (+37.5%), Suzuki (+5.8%) and Mitsubishi (+5.6%) are a lot weaker and round out the Top 5. Below, Wuling (+160%) and Hyundai (+97.8%) stand out. Newcomer Chery is up one spot on April to #11. In the retail lane, Toyota (+43.3%), Daihatsu (+37.5%) and Honda (+46.8%) dominate with Hyundai (+106%) and Wuling (+198.5%) impress.
Over in the models ranking, the Daihatsu Sigra (+182.9%) lodges its first monthly win since December and is followed by the Toyota Avanza (+194.5%). The Avanza hold onto the YTD pole position in the process. The Toyota Kinjang Innova (+133.7%) and Daihatsu Gran Max Pikap (+106.9%) also score surreal year-on-year gains while the Toyota Calya (+77.4%) is also in stellar shape to round out the Top 5. The Toyota Agya (+125.1%) and Rush (+107.3%) stand out further down while the leader of the past month, the Mitsubishi Xpander (+31.6%) falls to #10 in May. The Honda WR-V is the best-selling recent launch at #12, distancing the Wuling Alvez (#22).
