Taiwan April 2023: Lexus (+93.2%), Hyundai (+86.6%) shine, sales up 8.4%

Lexus sales are up 93.2% year-on-year in April.

New light vehicle sales in Taiwan gain 8.4% year-on-year in April to 38,231, bringing the year-to-date tally up 7.4% to 149,999. Toyota (-7.1%) can’t surf on the overall growth but stays distant leader in the brands charts with 26.4% share vs. 27% so far this year. Lexus (+93.2%) threepeats at a record 2nd place with a splendid year-on-year lift and 8.2% share vs. 7.3% YTD. Mercedes (+16.4%) climbs back up four spots on March to round out the podium above Hyundai (+86.6%) once again in outstanding shape and up five ranks on last month to #4. Volkswagen (+135.5%), Honda (+25.2%) and Mazda (+18.5%) also impress.

In the models aisle, there’s no surprise on top as the Toyota Corolla Cross remains the best-seller, although it sinks -24.5% year-on-year. The Toyota Corolla Altis (=sedan) is down -6% YoY but rallies back up seven spots on last month to #2. The Honda CR-V (+84.4%) surges ahead and consolidates its third place YTD, while down the charts the Toyota Town Ace (+53.1%), Lexus NX (+77.1%), Toyota Yaris (+15.9%) and Ford Focus (+16.5%) all outrun the market. #2 over the Full Year 2022, the Toyota RAV4 (-22.5%) is struggling at #8, yet this is better than the #11 spot it fell to in March. The MG HS is up three ranks on March to end the month at the Top 10’s doorstep at #11 just as the Lexus RX (+114.1%) and UX (+168.3%) shine bright below.
