Taiwan March 2023: Hyundai (+157.1%), Tesla (+54.9%), Lexus (+50%) impress in market up 12%

The Hyundai Custin is inside the Taiwanese Top 20 for March.

44,161 new cars joined Taiwanese roads in March, a 12% year-on-year improvement. The Q1 2023 tally stands at 111,768 units, up 7.1% over the same period last year. Toyota (-9.2%) retrogrades to 23.9% share vs. 27.2% year-to-date and goes against the positive market. Lexus (+50%) repeats at a record 2nd place with 7.4% share above Honda (-9%). Tesla (+54.9%) jumps to #4 as the end of quarter month brings good fortunes. Hyundai (+157.1%) is the most dynamic Top 10 member, with Mercedes (+16.4%) also beating the market. Below, BMW (+82.2%) shines year-on-year but misses out on a Top 10 finish whereas it ranks #9 year-to-date.

The Toyota Corolla Cross (-3.4%) is once again the most popular vehicle in Taiwan with a dominant 7.6% share. The Tesla Model Y jumps to 2nd place overall with 5.2% share and now ranks #13 year-to-date vs. #28 over the Full Year 2022. The Honda CR-V (-24.2%) repeats at #3 despite a hefty year-on-year loss. Below, the Toyota Town Ace (+48.8%) and Lexus NX (+67.8%) both sport splendid year-on-year gains. But the rest of the Top 10 underperforms: the Ford Focus is up 10.9%, the CMC Veryca down -10.2%, the Toyota Yaris off -10.1%, the Toyota Corolla Altis at -18.6% and the Nissan Kicks at -14.6%. Just outside the Top 10, the Toyota RAV4 (-33.5%) is in freefall. Notice also the MG HS up to a record #14.
