Pakistan March 2023: Suzuki Alto back on top in market off -65.6%
The Suzuki Alto holds 27.2% of the Pakistani market in March.
According to local association PAMA, 9,351 new locally assembled light vehicles found a buyer in Pakistan in March, that’s a heavy -65.6% year-on-year fall. The Q1 2023 volume is off -62.6% to just 25,980 units. Note not all manufacturers present in Pakistan are members of PAMA such as Kia, Changan and MG notably and therefore don’t appear in these statistics. Non-availability of CKD parts due to Letter of Credit issues continues to penalise production and sales in the country. Imports of goods into Pakistan generally require a Compulsory Letter of Credit.
The brands and models rankings are back to some kind of normalcy though after a wild February. Suzuki (-65.8%) follows the market to a 55% share vs. 34.9% so far this year, it is followed by Toyota (-65.8%) and Hyundai (-36%). Honda (-77.1%) is hit hard and falls to #4 after ranking #2 in February. Sazgar Haval now has sales available and holds 1.1% of the market. Model-wise, the Suzuki Alto (-74.1%) is in total freefall but easily reclaims the top spot with 27.2% share. It distances the Suzuki Swift up 16 spots on last month to #2 and the Suzuki Bolan (-39.6%) up 13 to #3.
