Denmark March 2023: Tesla and Model Y smash all records in market up 22.8%

The Tesla Model Y holds 17.8% of the Danish new car market in March.

Whereas March 2022 was down a ghastly -38.4% on the year prior, this year’s March sales catch up for part of the lost ground at +22.8% to 17,960 units. The Q1 2023 tally is up 16.8% to 39,960. Tesla (+391.3%) obliterates all its records this month, holding a gargantuan 20.5% share and now up to the YTD top spot where it is up 416.8% to 13.1% share. As a reminder, Tesla ranked #18 brand over the Full Year 2022. Volkswagen (-6.7%) is relegated to a distant #2 with 7.6% share just as Audi (+79.9%) closes the podium in spectacular fashion. Only Kia (+35.1%) manages to outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10, which shows this month’s growth is almost exclusively due to Tesla’s performance.

The Tesla Model Y (+510.1%) repeats at #1 with a stunning 17.8% share. At 3,203 sales, this is likely to be the largest monthly volume ever recorded in Denmark. Please comment on this post if you know differently. Leader over the Full Year 2022, the Peugeot 208 (+50.4%) remains in 2nd place. The Tesla Model 3 (+98.7%) doubles its volume year-on-year and is up 90 spots on February to #3. The Ford Kuga (+62.7%) and Volvo XC40 (+69.1%) also shine to round out the Top 5. Among the remaining Top 10 nameplates, only the Renault Megane (+525.5%), lifted by the new EV model, manages to beat the market.
