Morocco Full Year 2022: Dacia clear leader, Logan overtakes Sandero in market off -8%

New light vehicle sales drop -8% year-on-year in 2022 in Morocco to 161,410 units. This includes 143.186 passenger cars (-7.1%) and 18.224 light commercials (-14.2%). Local producer Dacia (-11.7%) continues to dominate the Moroccan passenger cars charts with albeit with a lower share at 27.2% vs. 28.6% last year. It is followed by sister brand Renault (+5.7%) which progresses to 15% of the market. Hyundai (+9.9%) also goes against the negative market and climbs one spot on 2021 to land on the third step of the podium. As a result Peugeot (-6.5%) drops to #4 while Opel (-2.9%) leapfrogs past Citroen (-16.2%) and Volkswagen (-17.1%) to #5. Kia (+13%) and Toyota (+12.1%) lodge the largest gains in the Top 10. In the LCV ranking, Renault (+47.1%) overtakes DFSK (-32.7%) to take the top spot, with Ford (-10.1%), Mitsubishi (-3.3%) and Toyota (-2.8%) in tow.
Over in the models ranking, the Dacia Logan (+38%) surges ahead and topples the Dacia Sandero (+3%). This is the first time since 2017 that the Logan is the best-selling vehicle in Morocco. The Renault Express (+144.9%) ends its first full year in market at a splendid third place while the Duster (+2.8%) makes it three Dacias in the Top 4. The Peugeot 208 (+21.4%) eclipses a struggling Renault Clio (-39.4%) and ranks #5. The Hyundai Tucson (+16.4%) also defies the market with a splendid gain, while in the remainder of the Top 10, the Dacia Lodgy (-1.4%), Hyundai Accent (-3%) and Opel Corsa (-2.8%) all resist better than the market.
