Portugal January 2023: Peugeot 2008 leads, Dacia Jogger up to #7, sales surge 48.4%
The Dacia Jogger breaks into the Portuguese Top 10 in January.
New car sales in Portugal surge 48.4% year-on-year in January to 14,639 units. #2 in December, Peugeot (-2.3%) reclaims the top spot it held over the Full Year 2022 with 9.1% share, dislodging Renault (+109%) which doubles its sales year-on-year. Dacia (+121.9%) is also in fantastic mood and stays third overall. Opel (+190.6%), Fiat (+131.6%) and Mercedes (+59.7%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10, with Volkswagen (+44.7%), Toyota (+37%), BMW (+30.1%) and Citroen (+15.2%) are also up strongly but trailing the average growth. Outside the Top 10, Mazda (+180.8%), Seat (+149.1%), Skoda (+96.5%), Cupra (+89.2%), Mitsubishi (+65.2%) and Tesla (#19) stand out.
Looking at the models ranking, the Peugeot 2008 (-26.9%) stays in the lead despite a harsh year-on-year fall. It distances by 11 sales the Renault Clio (+146.2%) and by 17 units the Fiat 500 (+313.9%). The Opel Corsa (+156.1%), Mercedes A-Class (+155.2%) and Seat Arona (+416.9%) also lodge surreal gains below. The Dacia Jogger is up 14 spots on December to crack the Portuguese Top 10 for the very first time at #7 and easily top the recent launches charts above the Renault Megane E-Tech (#42) and Toyota Aygo X (#53). The remainder of the Top 10 is euphoric: the Hyundai i20 is up 187.9%, the Dacia Duster up 130.1% and the Volvo XC40 is a little shyer at +51.3%.
