Argentina January 2023: Fiat Cronos breaks share record, VW (+64.9%), Ford (+69.9%) impress, sales up 15.1%
The Fiat Cronos accounts for 90% of Fiat sales in January.
50,085 new vehicles found a home in Argentina in January, a solid 15.1% year-on-year improvement. Toyota (+34.6%) brilliantly doubles the market growth rate to remain at #1 with 20.6% share. It is followed by Fiat (-4%) seemingly in difficulty but with a very high January 2022 comparison base when it topped the charts outright for the first time in 23 years. Volkswagen (+64.9%) and Ford (+69.9%) do ever better just below, while Chevrolet (+40.8%) also beats the market at #6. Renault (+1.6%) is shy and falls to #5 whereas Citroen (-26.6%), Peugeot (-26.5%), Nissan (-18.9%) and Jeep (-12.5%) close the Top 10 in paltry fashion.
Over in the models aisle, the Fiat Cronos (+16.5%) fares slightly better than the market, and that is enough to break its record share at 14.1%, just eclipsing its previous best of 14% hit exactly a year ago in January 2022. Note the Cronos accounts for 90.5% of all Fiat sales this month. The Peugeot 208 (+20.4%) remains at the 2nd spot it held over the Full Year 2022 and is followed by the VW Amarok (+41.4) ad Toyota Hilux (+23%). It is the second time in four months the Amarok outsells the Hilux, with promotions as the current generation sunsets potentially the reason for the VW’s strength. The Ford Ranger (+140.9%), Chevrolet Tracker (+309.7%) and VW Polo (+3610.5%!) all post insolent gains in the remainder of the Top 10. In fact the entire Top 10 outpaces the market with the Toyota Corolla Cross (+46.5%), Etios (+44.4%), Yaris (+37.8%) and Renault Kangoo (+23.5%) also strong.
