UK November 2022: Nissan Qashqai and Tesla Model Y best-sellers, sales up 23.5%

The Nissan Qashqai is #1 for the 4th time this year.

UK new car sales post another great month in November at +23.5% year-on-year to 142,889 units, the highest November volume since 2019. The year-to-date tally is now down -3.4% to 1,485,601 sales. Private sales edge up 2.7% to 64,292 units and 45% vs. 54.1% a year ago while fleet sales shoot up 45.4% to 74,184 and 51.9% share vs. 44.1% in November 2021. Business sales soar 112.2% to 4,413 and 3.1% share vs. 1.8%. Year-to-date, private sales are also up 2.7% to 766,097 and 51.6% share vs. 48.5% over the same period in 2021, but fleet sales drop -10.8% to 681,136 and 45.8% share vs. 49.6% last year. Business sales gain 30.3% but remain limited at 38,368 units and 2.6% share vs. 1.9% a year ago.

Diesel volumes drop -5.6% to just 5,605 units and 3.9% share vs. 5.1% in November 2021, petrol is up 15% to 57,590 and 40.3% share vs. 43.3% last year, MHEV soar 37.2% to 24,070 and 16.8% share vs.  15.2% and BEV surge 35.2% to 29,372 and 20.6% share vs. 18.8% a year ago, its largest market share this year. PHEV fall -5.7% to 10,186 and 7.1% share vs. 9.3% and HEV is up 66.9% to 16,066 and 11.2% share vs. 8.3%. Year-to-date, diesel implodes -39.5% to 78,975 and 5.3% share vs. 8.5% over the same period in 2021, petrol skids -11.1% to 640,382 and 43.1% share vs. 46.8% a year ago and MHEV edge down -2.2% to 274,073 and 18.5% share vs. 18.2%. BEV soar 38% to 224,919 and 15.1% share vs. 10.6%, PHEV sinks -12.4% to 93,047 and 6.3% share vs. 6.9% and HEV climbs up 25.7% to 174,205 and 11.7% share vs. 9%.

Over in the brands ranking, Volkswagen (+59.3%) posts a very vigorous lift and scores its 4th monthly win of the year with a dominant 9.6% share. Ford (+111.1%) catches up on a devastated year-ago volume but drops to #2 with 7.8% of the market and now only has a 418-sale advantage over VW year-to-date. Audi (+49%) is also in outstanding shape at #3 while BMW (+13.7%), leader a year ago, overtakes Kia to now rank #4 year-to-date. Nissan (+85%) shoots up year-on-year and gains 5 spots on October to end the month at #5 for the 2nd time in the past 3 months. Tesla (+95.8%) also vastly outpaces the market and rallies back up 33 spots on October to #9. Dacia (+160.2%), Lexus (+128.1%) and Polestar (+115%) stand out below.

In the models charts, the Nissan Qashqai (+132.2%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year thanks to the new generation and delivers its 5th ever monthly win, four of them having occurred this year: in April, July, September and November. Add September 2017 for the 5th time. The Qashqai therefore consolidates its YTD top spot whereas it ranked #7 over the Full Year 2021. The Tesla Model Y storms back to 2nd place overall with 3% share and advances to #9 year-to-date. The Mini (-6.7%) is up three spots on October to #3 despite a year-on-year fall, while the Ford Fiesta (+2740.6%!) is down three to #4. #2 year-to-date, the Vauxhall Corsa (-18.8%) ranks 5th for the month ahead of the VW Golf (+175.9%) and Ford Puma (+1811.1%). The VW T-Roc (#8) signs its fourth Top 10 finish in the past 5 months and the Toyota Yaris (#10) its first since last July.
