Mexico October 2022: Chevrolet leads again, Ram, Renault impress, sales up 18.9%
Ram sales are up 141.2% year-on-year in October.
91,101 new vehicles hit Mexican roads in October, an impressive 18.9% year-on-year surge. As a result, the year-to-date volume is up 4.2% to 869,630 units. We are witnessing a momentous shift atop the brands ranking: Chevrolet (+97.3%) almost doubles its sales year-on-year to lead for the 4th consecutive month, leaving the leader of the past decade, Nissan (-29.4%), far below. Chevrolet’s advantage this month is almost 2,000 sales but Nissan leads by 7,200 units year-to-date, meaning it will be difficult for Chevrolet to snap the Full Year 2022 top spot. Kia (+5.2%) trails the market but stays in third place above Toyota (+41.9%) and Mazda (+27.3%) both in superb shape. MG (+117.7%) equals its ranking (#6) and share (5.3%) records and hits an all-time high monthly volume at just under 4,800 units. Ram (+141.2%), Renault (+141%) and Hyundai (+79.8%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10 just as Honda (+26%) holds a more reasonable albeit market beating year-on-year evolution.
Model-wise, the Kia Rio (+55.7%) confirms it is the new favourite in Mexico, with the Chevrolet Onix (+12533.3%!) at #2 recovering from stock-constrained year-ago volumes and advancing to #6 year-to-date. The Nissan Pickup (+8.9%) is up two spots on September to #3, a ranking it now also holds YTD, distancing the Nissan Versa (-60.3%) in complete freefall and the Ram 1500-4000 (+75.5%) up a staggering 27 ranks on last month to #5. Below, the Chevrolet Groove (+9305.3%), Mazda CX-5 (+1504.1%), Mazda2 (+226.3%) and MG 5 (+100%) all score surreal year-on-year gains and all rank inside the Top 10. The Chevrolet S10 (#15) is the best-selling recent launch in the country ahead of the MG GT (#37) and the China-made Ford Territory (#50), new for the month.
