Switzerland August 2022: Dacia (+71.5%) shows off, Skoda Octavia and Fiat 500 top stable market (-0.4%)

The Dacia Duster ranks #3 overall in Switzerland in August.

16,384 new cars hit Swiss roads in August, edging down -0.4% year-on-year. The year-to-date tally now stands at 141,659 down -11.7% on the same period last year. Volkswagen (+2.2%) goes against the market to post a small year-on-year uptick, ending the month at 11.5% share vs. 10.5% YTD. In fact the entire Top 6 brands are identical to the YTD order. Skoda (+13.8%), BMW (+12.3%) and Audi (+9.8%) sport solid gains with Mercedes (+0.7%) stable and Toyota (-14.6%) suffering. Dacia (+71.5%) scores the largest year-on-year lift in the Top 25 and climbs to #7 overall vs. #14 over the Full Year 2021. Below, Genesis (+216.7%), Alfa Romeo (+109%), Cupra (+64.3%), Maserati (+60%), Kia (+24.3%) and Polestar (+18.4%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+32.3%) matches the pole position it holds year-to-date, and is followed this month by the Fiat 500 (+23.1%) up 13 spots on July. The Dacia Duster (+70.1%) is up five to #3, its best ranking in Switzerland since last December (#2). The Audi Q3 (+7.9%) also advances five ranks to #4 and accesses the third place YTD. At #5, the BMW X3 (+20.2%) distances three Volkswagens: the T-Roc (+30.5%), Tiguan (+14.2%) and Golf (+17.2%). The Skoda Enyaq (+67.5%), Ford Kuga (+39.9%) and Tesla Model Y (+72.5%) ensure the Top 11 models all beat the market. The Toyota Yaris Cross (#17) is the best-selling recent launch ahead of the Dacia Jogger (#26), Cupra Born (#34) and VW Taigo (#69).
