Luxembourg August 2022: First positive market in 14 months, Skoda (+44.6%), Toyota (+43.9%), Hyundai (+43.7%) shine

Skoda sales are up 44.6% year-on-year in August.

New car sales in Luxembourg end 14 consecutive months of year-on-year decline in August at +6.3% to  2,968 units. However August 2021 was down -23.9% on the year prior. The year-to-date tally now stands at 28,501 sales, down -11.1% over the same period a year ago. Volkswagen (+27.6%) cements its lead with 12.2% share vs. 11.8% so far this year. In fact the entire Top 5 is identical to the year-to-date order, with Mercedes (+9.6%), Audi (+39.1%), BMW (+7.5%) and Peugeot (+43.1%) in tow and all beating the market. Skoda (+44.6%), Hyundai (+43.7%) and Toyota (+43.9%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Renault (-17.6%) and Citroen (-15.5%) are in difficulty. Note also the first sale of Chinese carmaker Hongqi in Luxembourg.
