Austria July 2022: Dacia smashes records, places Sandero at #1 and Duster at #3

The Dacia Sandero is the best-selling vehicle in Austria in July.

New car sales in Austria are down -19.3% on July 2021 to 16,054 units, this is off -35.2% on July 2020 and down -49% on July 2019 when 31,454 cars were registered. The year-to-date volume now stands at 124,660 units, down -19.2% over the same period in 2021. Volkswagen (-27.7%) freefalls but easily remains the most popular carmaker in the country with 14% share, in line with its YTD level. Skoda (+2%) braves the negative market to cement its 2nd place with 10.5% of the market vs. 9% YTD. But the hero of the month is Dacia, up 20.2% year-on-year and 5 spots on June to land on the third step of the podium with 6.6% share, smashing its previous record ranking of #8 hit just last month, as well as its share record with a previous vest of 4.4% in July 2021. It ranks #13 year-to-date with 3.5% of the market. Peugeot (+40.4%) and Citroen (+61%) also sport fantastic upticks in the remainder of the Top 10.

Model-wise, like a year ago the Dacia Sandero is the best-selling vehicle in the country with a commanding 3.4% share vs. 2% year-to-date where it now ranks #2. The Skoda Octavia (-5.7%) limits its year-on-year fall to rally back from outside the June Top 20 directly to #2. In a brilliant third place, the Dacia Duster (+57.9%) smashes its ranking record which was #9 hit in December 2017. This means Dacia has two nameplates on the podium vs. 2 in the Top 5 for brand leader Volkswagen. The Tiguan (+29.4%) is up 13 spots on June to land at #4 ahead of the VW Golf (-9.5%) and Skoda Fabia (-2.5%). The new Cupra Born shoots up to a record #8, distancing the Toyota Yaris/Cross (+26.5%) at #9. The Peugeot 208 (+71.7%), 2008 (+70.6%), Skoda Enyaq (+65.4%) and VW ID.4 (+24.5%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 20.
