Ukraine March 2022: Russian invasion sends market down -93.9% year-on-year

The Renault Duster is by far the best-selling vehicle in Ukraine in March.

February figures are also included in the data section of this article.

Thanks to the resilience and dedication of our contact in Ukraine, we can share with you today the latest sales data for this country, and as expected the situation is dire. It seems really futile to report on car registrations given the current situation, but we feel it’s important to relay the impact the Russian invasion of Ukraine has had on the market: a -93.9% stall year-on-year to just 546 sales.

Renault (-91.4%) resists slightly better than the market and sees its share shoot up to 19.8% vs. 14.8% so far this year. Toyota (-92.5%) is toppled from the top spot it held in February to #2 with 16.1% share vs. 12.4% YTD, while Skoda (-94.1%) advances one spot to #3, overtaking Mitsubishi (-89.6%). Citroen (-84.3%) is up 13 ranks on last month to #5 ahead of Volkswagen (-94.7%), Nissan (-94.5%) and Hyundai (-96.3%). Kia (-97.5%) and Chery (-95.5%) round out the Top 10 as the latter holds onto the third spot YTD. Other carmaker faring better than the market include Chevrolet (+200%), Dongfeng (-42.9%), Honda (-83.9%), Porsche (-84.1%), JAC (-86%) Audi (-82.9%), Haval (-90.8%), Seat (-92.3%) and Opel (-93%). Note 7 Ladas we registered in March (-96.3%).

Over in the models ranking, 7 of the Top 10 best-sellers are SUVs. The Renault Duster (-86.6%) lifts its record market share to 14.8%, almost doubling the sales of any other nameplate in market. The Toyota RAV4 (-93.6%) remains in third place and in fact the Top 3 reflects the YTD ranking with the Skoda Kodiaq (-85.9%) up two spots on last month to #3. The Citroen C-Elysée (-68.9%) is up a whopping 68 ranks on February to land at a record 4th position, distancing the Mitsubishi Outlander (-86.8%) and Toyota Land Cruiser (-57.6%) The Kia Rio X (+1300%) celebrates one year in market and is up 47 spots to #7. The Toyota Yaris Cross is up 20 ranks to break into the Ukrainian Top 10 for the first time at #10. It leads recent launches above the Dongfeng M-NV (#31), Opel Mokka (#37) and MG HS (#42).
