Switzerland March 2022: Tesla Model 3 and Model Y top market down -13.9%

The Tesla Model Y ranks #2 in Switzerland in March.

The Swiss new car market falls -13.9% year-on-year in March to 21,722 units, leading to a year-to-date volume down -4% to 54,227. In March, 4×4 sales are down -15.3% to 10,554 and 48.6% share vs. 49.4% a year ago and -3.5% over Q1 2022 to 26,544 and 48.9% share vs. 48.7% over the same period in 2021. Alternatively fuelled vehicles (mainly HEV, MHEV, PHEV and BEV) soar 22.3% to 11,522 and 53% share vs. 37.3% a year ago and are up 31.1% year-to-date to 27,227 and 50.2% share vs. 36.7% in 2021.

In the brands ranking, Volkswagen (-15.2%) remains in the leads with 10.2% share vs. 10.1% so far this year. 101 units below is BMW (-17.5%) at 9.7% vs. 8.6% over Q1 where it is up to #2 as well. Mercedes (-34.1%) suffers and falls one spot on February to #4 ahead of Audi (-7.9%) up one to #4. Tesla (+197.2%) is up 11 ranks on last month to #5 and 7.2% share, exactly double the market share it holds over Q1. Dacia (+40.4%) is also up 11 spots on February to #8 while Toyota (+22.7%) is the only additional gainer in the Top 10. Further down, Kia (+27.2%), Cupra (+51.6%), DS (+82.1%) and Lexus (+31.8%) stand out.

Model-wise, it’s a Tesla world as the end-of-quarter is here with its mammoth deliveries. The Tesla Model 3 (+74.1%) tops the charts with 5.5% share and advances to #3 year-to-date while the Tesla Model Y is up 7 spots on February to land at #2 with 3.9% share, now #4 YTD. The BMW X3 (+6.1%) is up 15 ranks on last month to #4, the Audi Q3 (-15.2%) is up 11 to #4, the VW T-Roc (+75.9%) is up 84 to #5, the Dacia Sandero (+10.5%) up 32 to #6 and the Fiat 500 (-21.8%) up 22 to #7. The Peugeot 208 (+44.5%) and Skoda Fabia (+28%) also gain ground in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas the VW Tiguan (-45.1%) implodes to #9 but remans #1 year-to-date. The Cupra Formentor (+34.7%) is up 59 spots on February to end the month just one unit off a Top 10 finish at #11. The Formentor sells more than twice the amount of any Seat model this month. The Toyota Yaris Cross (#26) is the most popular new model ahead of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (#34), Renault Arkana (#57), VW Taigo (#64), Audi Q4 (#65) and Dacia Jogger (#69).
