Slovakia March 2022: Hyundai i30 #1 again, no Skoda on podium for 2nd straight month, market up 14.3%

The Hyundai i30 repeats at #1 in Slovakia in March.

7,476 new cars found a buyer in Slovakia in March, a 14.3% year-on-year increase at odds with most European markets this month. The year-to-date tally is now up an impressive 24.8% to 19,921 units, also defying the European gloomy environment. In the brands ranking, Skoda (-26%) posts another disappointing result but still manage to cling to the top spot with 15% share vs. 16.7% over Q1 2022. Like last month, its three followers are in euphoric mode: Hyundai is up 45.7% to 13.7% share, Kia soars 53.9% to 11.2% and Toyota surges 96.1% to 10.8%. Nissan (+194.9%) is up 12 spots to #10 and signs by far the best improvement in the Top 10, with Dacia (+64.9%), Renault (+52.2%) and Mercedes (+41.6%) also vastly outpacing the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, notice Cupra (+320%), Honda (+130.3%), Ford (+130.2%) and Seat (+78.4%) all posting fantastic year-on-year gains.

Over in the models ranking, the Hyundai i30 easily repeats at #1 with 5.8% share and also snaps the #1 spot year-to-date as a result. The Kia Ceed is up three spots on February to #2 while the Hyundai Tucson is down one to #3. This means there are no Skodas on the podium for the second month in a row (it was no Skodas in the Top 5 in February). The Skoda Fabia is up two ranks to #5 but has been dislodged from the YTD top spot to #2 The Kia Sportage is down two spots on last month to #6, distancing the Skoda Scala (+10), Dacia Sandero (+3) and Toyota Corolla (+1). The Skoda Karoq (-1) and Renault Clio (+19) round out the Top 10. Notice also the Dacia Duster (+8) at #11 and the Skoda Octavia diving down 21 ranks to a paltry 28th spot vs. #3 over the Full Year 2021.
