Mexico March 2022: Market dips -0.3%, MG breaks records again, Nissan March #1, Chevrolet Captiva #7

The Chevrolet Captiva is up to a record 7th place in Mexico in March.

95,199 new light vehicles found a new home in Mexico in March, that’s a minuscule -0.3% dip year-on-year, in contrast with most of the world markets for the month. The Q1 2022 tally is down -2.2% to 253,384 units. Nissan (-20%) and Chevrolet (-11.6%) both lose significant ground year-on-year but remain atop the charts. Toyota (+19%) signs the best performance in the Top 7 with Kia (+13.2%) also in great shape at #5. Honda (+1.4%) beats the market but Mazda (-17.8%) and Volkswagen (-10.8%) underperform. MG (+334.5%) breaks its ranking and volume records this month to #8 and 3,502 sales. Suzuki (+4%) is also up to round out the Top 10. Below, Dodge (+111.8%), JAC (+83.2%), Jeep (+63.6%), Mercedes (+45.8%), Volvo (+30.8%), Peugeot (+28.9%) and Fiat (+26.9%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Nissan March (+35.2%) snaps its 2nd monthly win in the past 3 months whereas it had never ranked 1st before 2022. The Chevrolet Aveo (+30.3%) is toppled to #2 while the Kia Rio (+60.8%) remains in third place. The Nissan Versa (-53.3%) has another very difficult month and is stuck to #5 year-to-date whereas it easily dominated the ranking over the Full Year 2021. The Toyota Hilux (+152.6%) score a spectacular gain to remain at #6 while the Chevrolet Captiva (+603.7%) aka Baojun 530 is up 24 spots on February to land in 7th place, a new record for the nameplate. The Mazda CX-30 (+130.5%), Nissan Kicks (+68.1%) and Honda CR-V (+61.5%) close out the Top 10 in spectacular fashion. The best-selling recent launch is the Chevrolet Tornado Van (aka Wuling Hongguang V) up 26 ranks to #12.
