The Mitsubishi L200 aka Triton is the best-selling vehicle in Chile in March.
The Chilean new light vehicle market posts another impressive gain in March at +27.5% year-on-year to 41,467 units, believed to be the largest March volume and the 2nd largest monthly total in over two years. The year-to-date sales now stand at 110,493 units, up 34.8% over the same period in 2021. Passenger Cars are up just 9.6% to 10,908 in March and up 6.6% to 28,864 YTD, SUVs soar 36.6% to 18,461 in March and up 46.5% to 47,610 YTD, pickup trucks surge 49.1% to 7,710 in March and are up 62.5% to 20.823 YTD while vans gain 13.2% to 4,388 this month and are up 37.4% to 13,196 YTD.
Brand-wise, Chevrolet (+7.6%) remains in first place despite falling significantly behind the market rate whereas Chery (+143.5%) shows explosive growth to threepeat at #2 with 8.5% of the market. Toyota (+70.7%) is up two spots on February to close out the podium ahead of Volkswagen (+16.8%) and Suzuki (+12.6%) both underperforming. Mitsubishi (+976.1%!) and JAC (+82.1%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas MG (-13.1%), Kia (-18.9%) and Hyundai (-35.1%) go against the market with disappointing losses. Further down, Renault (+318.6%), Haval (+314.9%), JMC (+278.6%), Changan (+276.3%), Ford (+147.4%), Dongfeng (+144.9%) and Great Wall (+144.3%) stand out. Chinese manufacturers (+93.1%) account for 36.2% of the Chilean market in March vs. 35.6% so far this year.
In the models ranking, the Mitsubishi L200 (+1644%) reclaims control of the market both in March and year-to-date. It distances the VW Gol (+206.9%) coming out of nowhere directly into 2nd place vs. #15 year-to-date with the Chevrolet Sail (+1118.1%) also showing spectacular growth in third place. Chery places three models in the Top 7: the Tiggo 2 (-1.5%) at #4, the Tiggo 3 at #6 and the Tiggo 2 Pro at #7. Note the MG ZS (-43.3%) in difficulty at #8. The Toyota RAV4 (+172.1%) and Great Wall Poer (+181.2%) also impress further down.
