Chile February 2022: Chinese hold highest ever 39.6% share of record market up 29.6%

New light vehicle sales rise 29.6% year-on-year in February to 31,745 units, a record for the month. The year-to-date tally stands at 69,026 units, up 39.5% over the same period in 2021. Passenger Cars are actually down this month at -8.2% to 7,315 units whereas SUVs grow 56% to 14,688, pick ups are up 53.1% to 5,905 and vans up 18% to 3,837. Chinese carmakers soar 89.4% to 12,581 sales to hold a record 39.6% share vs. 27.1% a year ago in February 2021.
Chevrolet (-2.4%) and Chery (+63.2%) hold the top spots in the brands ranking like in January, with Peugeot (+54.1%) and Suzuki (+3.5%) swapping positions to #3 and #4 respectively. Toyota (+91.8%) is up one rank on last month to #5, followed by MG (-7.1%) rallying back up 12 spots to #6 but down year-on-year. JAC (+198.3%), Changan (+139%) and Nissan (+61.7%) round out the Top 10 in spectacular fashion. Below, Geely (+3171.4%), Brilliance (+921.4%), Opel (+881.4%), JMC (+625%), BAIC (+450.7%), Haval (+431%), Renault (+269.7%), Dongfeng (+190%), Mitsubishi (+175.3%) and Great Wall (+140.9%) impress.
Model-wise, the Chery Tiggo 2 (+23.9%) remains the best-seller with 3.2% share, while the Chevrolet Sail (+49.2%) is up 10 spots on January to #2. The Mitsubishi L200 (+250.4%) is down one to #3 but surging year-on-year. The MG ZS (-16.2%) rallies back up 19 ranks to #4 but is down year-on-year, it distances the Maxus T60 (+27.4%) and Great Wall Poer (+486.8%) up to a record 6th place and making it three pickups in the Top 6. The Peugeot Partner (+39.7%) follows with the Chevrolet Tracker, Toyota Yaris and Nissan Kicks (+668.1%) closing the Top 10. Notice also the Chery Tiggo 8 up to #12, the Toyota RAV4 up to #13, the Chery Tiggo 2 Pro up to #16, the Chevrolet Onix up to #19 and the Peugeot 2008 up to #21.
