Slovakia Full Year 2021: Skoda Fabia celebrates 4 straight years at #1, resists Hyundai i30 in stable market (-0.8%)

The Slovak new car market edges down -0.8% year-on-year in 2021 to 75,700 registrations. Skoda (-10%) remains the runaway leader but sees its market share drop by over two percentage points from 22.4% to 20.3%. In contrast Hyundai (+21.6%) and Kia (+19.4%) post the largest gains in the Top 10 and advance from 8.8% to 10.8% share and 8.5% to 10.2% respectively. Volkswagen (+13.7%), Toyota (+11.3%) and Peugeot (-17.4%) ensure the Top 6 is unchanged on 2020. Mercedes (+16.9%) and Opel (+0.6%) are up but Dacia (-25.6%) suffers. Further down, notice Ssangyong (+72.1%), Nissan (+43.8%), Mazda (+41.8%) and Audi (+17.8%) defying the lukewarm market.
Model-wise, the Skoda Fabia (+8.9%) celebrates 4 consecutive years in pole position and a 6th win in the past 7 years, improving its share to 5.5%. However the Hyundai i30 (+72.9%) is catching up fast, going from 2.6% to 4.6% share in the space of one year. The Skoda Octavia (-4.8%) drops one spot to round out the podium ahead of the Kia Ceed (+25.5%) which ranked #1 in December. The Hyundai Tucson (+48.1%) and Skoda Kamiq (+27.6%) are also very dynamic as is the Skoda Karoq (+18.5%). The Kia Sportage and VW T-Cross invite themselves inside the 2021 Top 10.
