Oman Full Year 2021: MG up to #4, Nissan Sunny resists Toyota Hilux in market edging up 0.2%

New vehicle sales in Oman edge up 0.2% year-on-year in 2021 to 72,190 units. Toyota (+3.3%) improves its market share from 45.3% to 46.7% whereas Nissan (-29.6%) drops drastically from 25% to 17.5% but stays at #2. Hyundai (+32.8%) is up two spots to #3 but the hero of the year is MG (+112%) up three spots to #4 overall with 5% market share. The Chinese carmaker overtakes Lexus (-12.8%), Isuzu (+36.4%) and Kia (-19.6%). Meanwhile Mitsubishi (+30.9%), Mazda (+25.8%) and Honda (+14.2%) shine in the remainder of the Top 10. Changan (+3004.8%) ends its first full year in market at #13, with Ram (+70.8%), Land Rover (+38.6%) and Ford (+29.9%) all securing strong lifts in the Top 20.
Over in the models ranking, the Nissan Sunny (+16.7%) is up from 13% to 15.1% market share and resists an assault by the Toyota Hilux (+47.3%) up one spot to #2 and 14.8% share vs. 10.1% last year. The Toyota Land Cruiser Pickup (-18.4%) is down one rank to #3 ahead of the Toyota Land Cruiser (-4.2%). In fact, Toyota monopolises the remainder of the Top 7 with the Fortuner (-5.1%), Hiace (+18.2%) and Corolla (+6.2%) in tow. The MG5 (+106.1%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year to break into the Top 10 at #9. Notice also strong performances by the Hyundai Elantra (+149.8%), Tucson (+74.4%), Ram Pickup (+70.8% and Isuzu TF (+49%). The best-selling 2021 launch with the MG GT (#56) and Kia Sonet (#57) selling the same amount, above the Toyota Corolla Cross (#86).
