Belgium September 2021: Market skids -26.4%, Volkswagen #1, Toyota (+21.7%) best performer in Top 15
Volkswagen is the #1 brand in Belgium for the second time in 2021.
New car sales in Belgium skid down -26.4% year-on-year in September to 26.554 units, leading to a year-to-date volume off -6% to 313.567, keeping in mind the 2020 YTD volume was already down -24% on the year prior. Volkswagen (-11.7%) reclaims the top spot for only the second time this year after last June with a solid 9.8% share. It distances last month’s leader and the #1 YTD BMW (-16.5%), with both brands losing significantly less ground than the market. In contrast, Mercedes (-40.8%), Audi (-31.6%) and Peugeot (-42.5%) all endure scathing losses. Like last month, Toyota (+21.7%) is one of only a few year-on-year gainers in the charts, it is joined in the Top 10 by Kia (+2.8%). Opel (-17.2%) and Ford (-19.3%) also contain their fall somewhat in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, Tesla (+32.5%), Porsche (+28.7%) and Nissan (+12%) stand out while Chinese newcomer Lynk & Co steps up 6 spots on August to #26 with 0.6% share.
Previous month: Belgium August 2021: BMW leads, Toyota only gainer in Top 20, market off -25.7%
