The Finnish new car market is down -8.5% year-on-year in August to 7.595 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 10.3% to 69.936. Toyota (-14.2%) easily remains the best-selling brand in the market with 16.3% share despite a sizeable loss. Volkswagen (+20.4%) on the other hand is very dynamic year-on-year but simply matches its YTD share at 10.9%. Only Hyundai (+41.5%) manages an uptick in the remainder of the Top 10, with all other carmakers losing ground. Mercedes (-27.5%), Ford (-10.5%), Skoda (-8.7%) and Volvo (-7.3%) are hit the hardest while Kia (-0.3%) and BMW (-3.8%) limit their fall. Further down, Land Rover (+300%), Fiat (+207.1%), Dacia (+154.4%), Jeep (+133.3%), Mazda (+28.6%) and Citroen (+19.4%) make themselves noticed.
Model-wise, exactly like a year ago Toyota monopolises the podium with the Corolla (-21.2%), Yaris (-11.1%) and RAV4 (+2.4%). The Corolla and Yaris hold the same positions year-to-date while the RAV4 ranks 4th behind the Skoda Octavia (-12.3%) which drops one spot on last month to #4 in August. The Dacia Duster surges to a record 5th place overall with 2.6% share while the Ford Kuga (+36.8%) gains 25 spots on July to land in 6th place, also believed to be a new record for the nameplate. The Kia Rio (+15.5%) is the only additional gainer in the Top 10, with the new VW ID.4 down three ranks on last month to #8, the Toyota C-HR (-1.3%) almost stable and the Nissan Qashqai (-37.7%) in trouble as the outgoing generation steps out.
