Argentina August 2021: Toyota (+40.1%), Fiat (+39.6%) tilt market into positive (+2.5%), Cronos hits record share

The Toyota Corolla Cross breaks into the Argentinean Top 10 in August.

New vehicle sales in Argentina edge up 2.5% year-on-year in August to 31.167 units, still a poor result given August 2020 volumes were down -30.9% on the year prior. The year-to-date tally is now up 27.7% to 271.689. Toyota (+40.1%) and Fiat (+39.6%) both vastly outpace the market to top the brands charts once again with 17.4% and 14.4% respectively. Traditionally the overall leader (it was over the Full Year 2020), Volkswagen (-24.3%) is stuck in third place with 13.3% share vs. 15.6% so far this year. Renault (-14.6%) and Chevrolet (-34.1%) are in difficulty and round out the Top 5 above Peugeot (-8.5%) and Ford (-39.9%). Mercedes (+71.7%) and Jeep (+53.9%) score the largest year-on-year gains in the Top 10 while Nissan (-2.6%) is almost stable. Further down, Agrale (+282.6%), Ram (+277.8%), DS (+131.3%), Iveco (+63.5%), Mini (+56.3%) and Haval (+25%) impress.

Model-wise, the Fiat Cronos (+125.7%) celebrates 12 consecutive months at #1 with a new record share at 11.5% of the market. The Cronos is up 308% year-to-date to easily top the charts with 9.9% share. The Toyota Hilux (-1.3%) edges down this month to 5.5% share vs. 6.6% year-to-date in 2nd place also. The next three models all post sizeable gains: the VW Gol (+39.9%), Ford Ranger (+12.3%) and Toyota Etios (+54.7%) round out the Top 5. Below, the Renault Kangoo (+769.7%), Toyota Yaris (+159.3%) and Peugeot 208 (+23.8%) stand out while the Toyota Corolla Cross breaks into the Argentinean Top 10 for the first time at #9 for its fourth month in market. Among other recent launches, the VW Nivus is down one spot on July to #17, the Renault Alaskan is up 11 to #20 and the VW Taos up 8 to #22.
